High dynamic range 30MHz to 6GHz transceiver for critical comms

Author: EIS Release Date: Aug 3, 2020

Analog Devices has revealed the first product in a series of wide dynamic range RF transceivers – receiver dynamic range is -150dBc/Hz.

ADI-ADRV9002

The 30MHz to 6GHz part is called ADRV9002, and is aimed at mission-critical applications, such as first-responder radios, private LTE networks and satellites.

“The difficulty for mission-critical networks to decipher complex signals increases as the radio spectrum becomes more populated,” according to ADI v-p Joe Barry. “ADRV9002 can correctly decode a signal in heavily

There are two transmitters and two receivers – both Rx and Tx bandwidth can be set across 15kHz to 40MHz for narrowband and broadband comms. Fractional-n, RF synthesisers are integrated, as is digital signal processing. All voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) and loop filter components are integrated.

Direct conversion signal paths are used, and each complete receiver and transmitter subsystem includes dc offset correction, quadrature error correction and programmable digital filters.

Auxiliary functions include ADCs, DACs and GPIOs, provided to add monitoring and control.

Low power sleep and monitor modes are included to save power in battery portable devices.

Its core can be powered directly from 1.0, 1.3 and 1.8V regulators. Other voltage rails are needed for digital interfacing, receiver, transmitter and auxiliary converter. Control is through a standard 4-wire serial port. High data rate and low data rate interfaces are supported using configurable CMOS or LVDS serial.

Packaging is 12 x 12mm 196ball chip-scale BGA.
