Cosel has used GaN transistors, planar magnetics and a modified fly-back topology to shrink a family of dc-dc power supplies.

Called the TE series, the new supplies come in 45W (TECS45F and TEPS45F) and a 65W (TECS65F or TEPS65F) forms.

TEPS versions have connections brought out to PCB pins and have a 1 x 2.3inch footprint, while TECS parts (right) have crimp style JST connectors and measure 1 x 3inch.

“Taking the benefits of GaN performances in high frequency switching it has been possible to deliver 45 and 65W in a 25.4 x 58.4mm max footprint at up to 93.5% efficiency. 12 and 24V output versions are able to deliver 140% power to sustain peak loads,” according to the company. “Standard products are delivered as an open frame though an optional dust protection case will be available.”

COSEL_TECS-TEPS45-65F_GaN_power-supplies 638Input voltage range is single-phase 85 to 264Vac, and certain safety standards are met across 100-240Vac, 50 or 60Hz – the 93.5% efficiency is measured at 230Vac and rated load.

Operation is over -10 to +70°C at any orientation, but derating will sometimes be needed.

Versions are are available in three fixed output voltages: 5, 12 or 24V, and the 140% peak current option for the last two mentioned above will be added next year – for driving dc motors or capacitor banks, for example.

Switching frequency is 800kHz.

input to output isolation is 3kVac and leakage is 0.25mA max to comply with IEC62368.

“TECS/TEPS45-65F units are ideal for Class II equipment and are able to achieve a low noise performance without requiring any ground connection,” said Cosel. “At no load, the power consumption is as low as 200mW.”

Height is ~24mm for the 45W types and ~27mm for 65W.

They have UL62368-1 and c-UL approval (equivalent to CAN/CSA-C22.2 No.62368-1, said the Cosel) and comply with the Japanese Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Act DEN-AN. They comply with the RoHS and Low Voltage directives and carry the CE mark and UKCA.

Applications are foreseen in measurement and analysis equipment, machine tools, industrial printers, display equipment and ticketing machines.
