HiSilicon, the IC design arm of Huawei, has overtaken Qualcomm in the China domestic smartphone AP market, according to CINNO Research, a China analyst.
In Q1 2030, HiSilicon had a 43.9% market share of the China AP market, says CINNO, compared to Qualcomm’s 32.8%.
This represents a sharp reversal from Q1 2019, when HiSilicon had a 24.3% share and Qualcomm had a 48.1% market share.
A boost for HiSilicon was Huawei’s success in increasing its China domestic smartphone market share by 6% y-o-y in Q1.
That success for Huawei’s smartphone market share came at the expense of China domestic phone brands like Oppo and Xiaomi which are Qualcomm customers so depressing Qualcomm’s China market processor sales.
Both Xiaomi and Oppo had declining shares in the China smartphone market in Q1 compared to a year ago.
