Wurth releases ‘performance’ grade 1206 SMD energy storage chokes

Author: EIS Release Date: Aug 17, 2020

Wurth added high saturation current versions to the ‘1206’ surface-mount shielded energy storage chokes in its WE-PD family  – see photo for general family appearance.

Identified by ‘1260P’ (with the ‘P’ indicating a performance parts within the PD family) the parts use a different core material. The number indicated the part size – 12 x 12mm footprint 6mm tall.

“Thanks to its MnZn core, the storage choke offers the highest ferrite-based saturation current and is characterised by a low Rdc,” according to the company. “Whereas the ‘standard’ and ‘robust’ series have a NiZn core.” (see the table below for saturation current and resistances)

There are 18 variants (see table) in E6 steps between 1.5µH and 1,000µH.

The inductors are AEC-Q-200 qualified, and some will operate up to 5MHz.

Applcations are expected in dc-dc converters and switching controllers with output powers from 10mW to 300W, said Wurth.

Operating temperature range is -40°C to +150°C.
