Streamline Avionics (formerly Elpac Capacitors) has a series of general purpose metallised polyester film capacitors for filtering, coupling or bypassing in high or low impedance circuits within ac or dc applications.

Called Z Series, they are available in three forms – axial oval wrap-and-fill, axial round wrap-and-fill and radial moulded box.

They can be used in “applications that require long term stability at a relatively low cost,” according to New Jersey-based New Yorker Electronics, which is stocking the parts. “The self-healing characteristics of the metallised dielectric provide a very high level of reliability.”

Voltage ratings span 50V to 600V, and the series has a temperature range of -55°C to +85°C a full rated voltage, de-rated linearly from +85°C to 50% at +125°C.”

Terminal to terminal, they withstand 150% of rated voltage for 60 seconds through a limited resistance of 100Ω/V. Terminal to case, they withstand 200% of rated voltage.

Dielectric absorption is 0.2 to 1% depending on configuration, voltage and temperature. Dc life is tested for 250hr at 140% rated voltage and +125°C. Temperature coefficeint is 960ppm/°C.
