Harmony in the Spring

Author: EIS Release Date: Sep 11, 2019

It looks as though Huawei will use an open source version of Android for its Mate30 launch this month and not its home-grown OS.

This means the Mate30 will not be able to access some Google services like Gmail and Maps.

If the ban on using the latest Android versions and services continues into next year, then Huawei may use its proprietary OS in a top-of-the-range handset

The home-grown Huawei OS, named HongMeng after a Chinese character representing primordial chaos, but wittily re-dubbed Harmony for the Western market, may be launched in the Spring of 2020 in the P40 handset, according to Yu Chengdong head of Huawei’s consumer business.

Huawei is still getting its apps  ecosystem for HongMeng/Harmony in place, says Yu.
