“We appreciate the continuous bipartisan support from the U.S. federal, state and city governments,” said a TSMC a spokeswoman, “it gives TSMC and its supply chain partners the confidence this and other future investments will be successful.”
Phoenix city council  will build three miles of streets for $61 million, spend $37 million on water infrastructure improvements and $107 million in wastewater improvements.
The company will enter a formal deal with the city after selecting a site, which is expected before the end of the year.

“It is remarkable that this came to fruition during a pandemic,” said Mayor Kate Gallego,  “the payoff is huge. TSMC will create 1,900 high-tech jobs and foster thousands more related jobs in the semiconductor supply chain ecosystem.”
TSMC plans to start building the fab early next year with first silicon  in 2024.
