STMicroelectronics' 27 W USB Type-C Power Delivery (PD) 3.0 adapter reference design features a programmable power supply

Image of STMicroelectronics STEVAL-USBPD27S USB Type-C PD Adapter DesignSTMicroelectronics' STEVAL-USBPD27S 27 W AC/DC adapter reference design implements a USB Type-C 3.0 PD provider with programmable power supply (PPS) support and adaptive synchronous rectification. The design features a reduced bill of materials (BOM), allowing for a compact and cost-effective solution. It accepts a wide input voltage range and delivers two fixed PDOs (5 V at 5 A, 9 V at 3 A) and two APDOs (5 V prog at 5 A and 9 V prog at 3 A). Finely adjusted to the advertised voltage range (PPS), the design manages the VCONN as required by the USB PD specification.

The solutions satisfies stringent energy saving recommendations with <40 mW of no-load power consumption, minimum four-point average efficiency in active mode compliant with CoC ver. 5 – Tier 2 and DOE Level VI requirement (except the 9 V Prog at 3 A APDO) , and EMI compliance with EN55022 (Class B).
