STMicroelectronics' 3.6 kW totem pole PFC includes an inrush current limiter reference design
STMicroelectronics' STEVAL-DPSTPFC1 is a digitally controlled bridgeless totem pole PFC reference design with smart inrush current control. The power board is based on 650 V SiC Power MOSFET driven by galvanically isolated gate drivers and thyristor SCR for AC line polarity switching with active current limitation on power-up or line drop recovery.
The control board with STM32 32-bit MCU implements a precise and responsive control algorithm to deliver cycle-by-cycle current regulation and tight voltage control. This reference design can greatly simplify the design effort and time to market for a complete and compact converter running at 75 kHz, offering optimal efficiency at full load (97.5%), very high-power factor, and low THD distortion (5% max. at 10% of maximum load).
