Kontron has announced boards and modules built around Intel’s 12th generation ‘Alder Lake-S’ Core processors.
The company will “update the current mini-ITX, µATX and ATX motherboards with this new processor series, and has also selected it as the 1st platform to adopt the new PICMG COM-HPC/Client form factor as it serves best technology trends set by COM-HPC client specification”, it said.
Congatec also announced Alder Lake boards today
12th Gen desktop processors combine performance cores (P-cores) and efficient cores (E-cores) on a die, allowing Intel’s ‘Thread Director’, enable IoT use cases with increased single-thread and multi-thread performance compared to the previous generation.
Intel’s UHD Graphics 770 (built around Iris Xe Architecture) supports display virtualisation and up to four independent displays.
Supported interfaces include PCIe 5.0 (16 lanes), PCIe 4.0 and DDR5/DDR4 memory combined.
Different parts provide up to 24 threads across up to 16 cores at nominal dissipations between 35W and 65W.
“It is the first Intel Core desktop processor series with real-time capabilities, 1x Gbit Ethernet and 2x 2.5Gbit Ethernet as well as Time Sensitive Networking capabilities,” according to Kontron.
The CPUs are socketed and can be picked for various applications in industrial, medical, kiosk, retail, ticketing, vending, gambling amusement and entertainment sectors, it added. According to Intel’s launch schedule, the first motherboards from the Extended Lifecycle Series and the Industrial Series with H610, respectively H610E chipsets will be available in the second quarter of 2022.
com-hpc-boardsA Size C (160mm x 120mm) COM-HPC Client design (right) is scheduled for end of Q2 this year, which will accommodate up to 512Gbyte of DDR5 across 4x SODIMMs.
