Synopsys under investigation for China sales

Author: EIS Release Date: Apr 22, 2022

Synopsys is under investigation by the US Department of Commerce for supplying EDA software to Huawei and SMIC, reports Bloomberg.

The DoC’s Entity List  bars US companies from selling technology to certain Chinese companies, among them Huawei and SMIC.

In December Synopsys said it had received a subpoena from the DoC’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) relating to deals with Chinese entities.

The BIS states: “While the Department does not comment on the potential existence of investigations, BIS vigorously investigates allegations of violations of the Export Administration Regulations, including attempts to transfer controlled items or technologies to or among parties on the Entity List. Any enforcement action resulting from an investigation is made public after that investigation has concluded.”
