Q1 wafer orders up
Author: EIS Release Date: Feb 24, 2020
Q1 wafer orders are up, says Doris Hsu chair of silicon wafer manufacturer GlobalWafers, as reported in Digitimes.
The company has seen “ a substantial ramp-up in 12-inch wafer demand”, says Hsu. Meanwhile, and the supply of its epitaxial wafers has become tight.
The increase in demand has come from Taiwan, Japan and Korea.
8-inch silicon wafer demand is expected to pick up gradually in 2020, while the pick-up in 6-inch wafer demand will be slower, says Hsu.
For epi-wafers, GlobalWafers’ production lines have been running at full capacity utilisation and demand will soon outstrip supply, says Hsu.
GlobalWafers continues to see orders for epi-wafers ramp up, and is about to see its supply fall short of demand, according to Hsu.
GlobalWafers’ revenues are expected to register flat growth or a slight decrease on year in 2019, while profits will be on par with year-ago levels, according to the silicon wafer maker.
Looking into 2020, GlobalWafers expects end-market demand arising from 5G will be driving its sales performance.
The company expects to post sequential revenue increases through the last quarter of the year.
