TDK Lambda RGA dcdc 1/16 brickTDK has introduced 250W 1/16th brick (~36 x 26 x 13mm) non-isolated dc-dc down converters for use in harsh environment.

Efficiency is up to 98%, reducing heat dissipation and allowing operation with the case between -40°C to +110°C.

Called RGA, they are capable of operating from 9 to 40V, or 9 to 53V.

For the 40V input version, the output can be adjusted across 3.3 to 24V and max current is 14A.

There are two 53V versions, delivering 3.3 to 15V up to 20A max, or 3.3 to 40V up to 10A max.

Adjustment is via a single external resistor (see below).

Cooling is aided by the five-sided die-cast aluminium housing, that has mounting tabs to increase heat cooling to a cold-plate heatsink for fan-less operation.

The conductive housing also reduces radiated EMI and, inside, encapsulation raises resistance to shock and vibration.

As well as the output voltage adjustment pin, all models get remote on-off, remote sense and protection against input under-voltage, over-current and heat. ‘Full feature’ models add to this a power good signal, output voltage sequencing and the ability to synchronise the operating frequency.

“RGA models comprise of three voltage and current combinations to support operation from 12V, 18V, 24V, 36V and 48V power sources. The wide input ranges can assist with inventory reduction programs with one part number covering multiple nominal voltages,” said the company, adding: “The need for external output capacitance is reduced due to an optimised dynamic voltage response.”

All models carry the CE and UKCA mark for the Low Voltage and RoHS Directives, and are designed to the IEC/UL/CSA/EN 62368-1 safety standards.

Evaluation boards are available.

Applications are expected in robotics, automated guided vehicles, communications, industry and battery-powered equipment.

The RGA product page can be found here. Adjustment does not seem to be covered in the data sheet, but is covered in a far more comprehensive document that TDK calls the instruction manual.
