Aceleron has announced a partnership with Nuenta of Staffordshire to distribute the Offgen solar energy storage system in the UK.

“This is the first energy storage product that Nuenta has added to its portfolio of renewable energy technologies,” said its technical director Craig Baker. “It is, without doubt, unique in the energy storage market and we are already seeing significant interest in the Offgen, even at this early stage in the partnership.”

Offgen (photo above right, door removed) is an all-in-one, modular energy storage system designed for off-grid or grid-tied residential and light commercial use, designed to work with solar photovoltaic systems and to ease installation. It can be installed indoors or outside.

Aceleron batteryInside are repairable batteries (left, named ‘Essential’), measuring 330mm tall, 240mm front-to-back and 15kg. These contains LiFePO4 lithium-ion cells. 5,000 cycle life is expected at 100% depth-of-discharge and 0.2C.

Capacity options for Offgens are 5.6, 8.4 or 11.2kWh (4, 6 or 8 Essentials), and multiple units can be connected together for up to 33kWh. The inverter inside (yellow in top photo) is rated at 6kW – with the solar connection rated across 120-500Vm and peak power tracking included. Also inside are the communications interface and switchgear. Size is 0.4 x 0.8 x 1.4m regardless of capacity.

The controls allow solar energy to charge the battery or feed into the grid during the day, and the battery to be charged from the grid at night to take advantage of variable tarriffs where available.

“The Offgen is also a cleantech force-multiplier – if a property has other clean technology installed, such as heat pumps, the renewable energy stored in the batteries can be used to power the heat pump – or other energy-efficient products,” claimed Aceleron.

The two companies will develop an installation training programme as well as providing pre and post sales support to customers.
