TSMC triples US investment to $40bn

As it holds a tool move-in ceremony at its Arizona fab today, TSMC says its original planned $12 billion investment in the US will now be $40 billion.
The additional investment will be to build equip and start production at a 3nm fab by 2026.
TSMC plans to start its first US production with a 4nm process in 2024.
Joe Biden and Morris Chang are expected to attend today’s ceremony.
The extra investment will increase employment at the fab site from 1,600 to 4,500.
When both plants are operating at full capacity, they will be running a total 60k wpm, 3x its original plan of 20k.
“Bringing TSMC’s investment to the United States is a masterstroke and a game-changing development for the industry,” said Jen Hsun Huang CEO of Nvidia.
