Kyocera doubling its investment budget 2022-6

Kyocera is more than doubling its capex and R&D budget to $9.78 billion over the three years March 2022-26, Kyocera’s President Hideo Tanimoto told the Nikkei.
 
Capex is doubling to $6.8 billion and R&D is increasing 60% to $3 billion.
 
To fund the programme, Kyocera will borrow $7.5 billion using its KDDI shares as collateral. Kyocera owns 15% of KDDI’s shares worth around $10 billion.
 
A major focus is on its semiconductor packaging business.  $450 million is being spent on a new packaging plant in Kagoshima, and $750 million is being spent on a ceramic components and semi packaging plant in Ayabe, Tokyo (pictured) to come on-stream in 2026.
 
Kyocera is also expanding its plants in Vietnam.
