The ongoing coronavirus Covid-19 situation in the UK has led Big Bang UK to cancel its annual Young Scientists and Engineers Fair, which was due to take place 11-14 March.
Explaining their decision, the fair’s organisers said “We have been actively monitoring and following advice about the novel coronavirus Covid-19 over the past weeks.big bang
“The unique nature of The Big Bang Fair – an indoor, hands-on interactive event for tens of thousands of young people, their teachers and parents from across the UK – means that we feel this is the most appropriate decision to take at this time.”
The virus has precipitated several event postponements and cancellations, most notably Mobile World Congress in February. As of the writing of this story, the number of confirmed cases in the UK has climbed to 373, of whom six have died.
The organisers plan to return for 2021, saying “We are very disappointed not to be in a position to go ahead as planned. We know that cancellation of the event will be disappointing for the schools, families and young people who had booked to attend as well as the exhibitors and we hope to see them all this time next year at The Big Bang Fair 2021.”
