Bosch to buy TSI Semiconductors

Bosch is to buy the buildings, machines and infrastructure of  the silicon foundry TSI Semiconductors of Roseville, California (pictured) and spend $1.5 billion re-tooling  10,000 sq ft of cleanroom space to make SiC chips on 200mm wafers starting in 2026.

Bosch said the full amount of future spending will “heavily depend” on federal funding opportunities.

TSI has 250 employees and currently runs 0.18µm CMOS, HV, BCD and DMOS processes.

Bosch had sales of $97 billion last year, with $15 billion coming from North America where it employs  37,000 staff.

Bosch chairman Stefan Hartung said Bosch welcomes any support from Washington.

Bosch is in the middle of a $3 billion semiconductor investment plan to expand production capacity in Dresden, Reutlingen and Penang
