Power Integrations has back-filled its InnoSwitch3 range of ac-dc power supply chips with 750V GaN power transistors – it already uses GaN transistors at the higher-powered end of the range.

“PowiGaN technology permits manufacture of 94% efficient power supplies suitable for regions with frequent brown-outs and line surges,” said the company. “This enables OEMs to specify a single power supply design to be used worldwide.”

InnoSwitch3 are families of off-line constant voltage constant current (CV/CC) fly-back switcher ICs, using novel inductive feedback to get high output accuracy without an opto-coupler.

The new devices have INN3x78C part numbers (bold in table below) and have ‘size 8’ 750V GaN transistor inside “enabling compact, efficient power supplies delivering between 27W and 55W without heatsink” according to Power Integrations.

The ICs are housed in the same high-creepage, safety-compliant InSOP-24D package as larger members of the GaN-based InnoSwitch3 families, which work up to 120W.

There are InnoSwitch3-CP, InnoSwitch3-EP and InnoSwitch3-Pro versions.
