Amphenol is aiming at vehicles with high-voltage versions of its MicroSpace connectors.
Mouser Amphenol FCI Minitek MicroSpace high-voltage connectors
“The LV214 Severity-2 compatible connectors are compact, robust and versatile,” according to distributor Mouser, which is stocking the parts. “With a rating of up to 1,200V and 4A, these connectors are suitable for higher power applications, including automotive navigation, infotainment and HVAC clusters.”
Selectively-loading a higher pin-count connector body is what increases voltage rating. Parts are available with 3.81, 6.35 and 8.89mm pitch for 400, 800 or 1,200V operation. Dielectric withstanding is 1.2, 2.5 or 3.6kVac.
Keying is available to prevent visual mismatching, and the connectors have TPA (terminal positioning assurance), primary and secondary contact retention, and CPA (connector positioning assurance) – TPA and CPA forms of latching.
Retention against vibration is 4N normal force, and the connector locking strength is >75N. Wire pull-out is greater than 50N (0.35mm2 conductor).
Contact resistance is under 30mΩ, and up to 30°C temperature rise can be tolerated – operation is over -40°C to +130°C.
20 mating cycles are possible with for the tin version, and other contact materials are available to push this up to 100 cycles.
