Turmoil at SMIC

SMIC chairman Gao Yonggang has resigned in a long line of departures, to be replaced by a vice chairman Liu Xunfeng (pictured).
 
Gao, who was CFO before becoming chairman, had been in the job for 12 months. No reason was given for him leaving except that it was ‘a job adjustment’.
 
 
 
The new chairman, Liu Xunfeng, is a member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference who has held management jobs in state-backed oil companies.
 
 
 
Last year Arm co-founder Tudor Brown resigned from the SMIC board.
 
In 2021, the chairman Zhou Zixue resigned and, the same year, vice-chairman Chiang Shang-Yi, who had been vp for R&D at TSMC, also resigned.
