Kemet has launched a family of metal composite power inductors for automotive. The MPXV series forms part of the company’s Metcom range and is AECQ200-qualified.

They’re suitable for use in dc-dc switching power supplies for the growing number of ECUs in vehicles, catering for applications such as LED headlights, meter cluster panels, head-up displays, electric water pumps, oil pumps and power steering.kemet

The MPXV series is designed to provide high efficiency, low self-heating, and low power losses, the firm claims, in order to suit them to designs where thermal considerations are vital to avoid adverse effects to other systems.

Available in various SMD footprints, the inductors have an operating temperature range of -55 to 155°C. hey have a rated inductance range of 0.1-100µH at 100kHz, 1mA, with a tolerance of ±20%.

Their dc resistance range is from 0.48mΩ to a maximum of 341.2mΩ, while their current range spans 2-90A.

The metal composite material is molded around the inductor coil core, shielding adjacent electronics from magnetic flux that might otherwise cause interference in sensitive systems.

“Our experience and expertise in high permeability inductor material development and production allow us to introduce devices with differentiated performance to meet and exceed the needs of the latest applications in sectors such as automotive,” said Dr. Philip Lessner, Kemet senior vice president and chief technology officer.

The MPXV series is available via Kemet distributors.
