Foxconn founder to run for Taiwan presidency

Yesterday, Terry Gou, the Foxconn founder, said he will run for the presidency of Taiwan as an independent after failing to win the nomination for the China-friendly Kuomintang (KMT) party.
 
Gou says he will bring peace to the China-Taiwan situation, “Taiwan should absolutely not become Ukraine. I shall never let Taiwan be the next Ukraine,” said Gou, “I can guarantee that I’ll bring 50 years of peace to the Taiwan Strait.”
 
Gou’s fellow contestants are: Lai Ching-te vp in the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Ko Wen-je  chairman of the Taiwan People’s Party and the New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih of the China-friendly Kuomintang (KMT) psrty.
 
Gou said he will “make Taiwan overtake Singapore within 20 years” and have the highest GDP per capita in Asia. “If Singapore can do it, so can Taiwan,” said Gou, “we need to pull the country back to the path of peace and prosperity through this election. Only by doing so can hundreds of industries safely develop and can people live and work in peace and contentment.”
 
 
 
Lai leads in the polls with 39% with Gou on 12%.
