Gitai, the Japanese space robotics specialist, has raised $15 million in a Series B Extension funding round.
Gitai secures funding for Space Robotic Arm development
The company says the investment will help development of its Lunar Robotic Rover and Lunar Inchworm Type Robotic Arm, and expand its Engineering Model/Flight Model Manufacturing Facilities in the United States, with an associated increase in staff.
When combined with the $30 million funding previously announced in May, the total amount of the Series B Extension round is now $45 million, says the company, which is based in Tokyo and Los Angeles.
The companies involved included Green Co-Invest Investment, Pacific Bays Capital and MSIVC (Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Venture Capital). Gitai also secured funds through a loan from MUFG Bank.
ISS demo
GITAI, we previously reported, is due to demonstrate robotics technology outside the International Space Station (ISS) later this year.
Working with Nanoracks, it will be testing the capabilities of its autonomous robot (right) when mounted externally to the space station on the Nanoracks Bishop Airlock.
The company first demonstrated its extra-vehicular autonomous robotic technology on the ISS in 2021. Having met that mission’s objectives, its next challenge is to be deployed externally.
