Nvidia and AMD are to use Arm IP for PC CPUs, reports Reuters. The processors will run Windows and could be on the market in 2025.

Although Microsoft announced Windows RT in 2011 which was designed to run on Arm architecture in Microsoft’s Surface PCs, the product never took off.

Apple has switched from using x86 in its Mac computers to using Arm-based base processors since when Apple has doubled its computer market share which has encouraged Microsoft to co-operate with chip companies wanting to make Arm-based processors for PCs.

Qualcomm also makes Armbased PC processors.
