SM&E 2024: High-spec plastic components from the UK

Author: EIS Release Date: Nov 29, 2023

Broanmain Plastics will be showing recent prototype-to-production projects at the Southern Manufacturing & Electronics exhibition in February.

The company offers tool design and various plastic moulding and finishing technologies on a single site in Surrey.

Broanmain Cucumber motion sensor

One of the projects was a motion sensor housing (right) for Cucumber Lighting Controls, which was seeking a UK-based moulder.

“Manufacturing components on UK shores is by far the most sustainable way to create a product that will be sold and used here,” said Cucumber CEO Mark King.” The logistical benefits of appointing a British company that has the capacity to mass mould and store components for us, combined with a skilled and collaborative team that can oversee the design and production of technical tools, adds immeasurable value.”

Another project was a fire-compliant magnetic door latch (left) for Fireco.

“Broanmain not only shares their tool making expertise, they deliver a personalised service. Plus, they have the manufacturing capacity to scale up production,” said Fireco Engineer Matt Ball.

Founded over 60 years ago and based in Dorking, Broanmain Plastics is a family-owned plastic moulder that offers thermoplastic, thermosetting and injection moulding on a single site, plus mould tool design and manufacture, and CNC finishing.

Design services include mouldability and feasibility studies, reverse-engineering, and reworking existing designs.

It addresses markets including aerospace, electronics, defence, science and consumer, and also manufactures its own range of insulated electrical stand-offs as well as spools for various uses.
