DigiKey supports 48V e-mobility development with Vishay’s eFuse reference design

Author: EIS Release Date: Jan 4, 2024

A new reference design by Vishay, and available from DigiKey, uses its eFuse resettable fuse with TrenchFET mosfets. It is designed for projects where semiconductor-based resettable fuses replace mechanical relays and traditional (non-resttable) fuses. Typical design applications will be 48V e-mobility projects – battery management systems, EV testing and solar installations as well as industrial and home automation, industrial and server computing, networking, telecom and base station power supplies.

The EFUSE-48V100A reference design safely connects and disconnects to 48V power sources (e.g., high energy battery packs) and features fast disconnect of loads in under 2μs, a resettable fuse and an adjustable current limit.

The eFuse is designed to handle continuous current up to 100A and to operate continuously at maximum current with
less than 14W of losses, without requiring active cooling. In addition to over-current protection, it has a pre-charge function and continuous current monitoring.  and over-current protection which can stop current flow through the eFuse in under 2μs.

“The eFuse concept is an innovative trend that protects both the user and the hardware in high power applications, and we’re excited to partner with Vishay to launch this new product,” said Mike Slater, vice president of global business development at DigiKey.
