Notebooks with  AI acceleration engines designed to efficiently manage workloads and power consumption, enhanced by Microsoft Windows 11’s Copilot, are a way to getting the notebook market growing again, says TrendForce.

The initial target demographic for AI PCs includes high-end business users and content creators with a higher price point, while the lack of  compelling AI applications might initially limit consumer uptake, and their success critically depends on software innovation, says TrendForce.

In 2023, the notebook market in 2023 struggled due to high inflation, with annual shipments reaching only 166 million units, a 10.8% YoY decrease. However, this decline was less severe compared to 2022.

Financial improvements in the US and OS updates from MS make TrendForce  project steady quarterly improvement in the notebook market for 2024, with an annual growth rate of approximately 3.6% and shipments reaching 172 million units.
