Digi International has been demonstrating new products – for edge-to-cloud systems – from its Digi ConnectCore and Digi XBee portfolios at Electronica.

Digi brings edge-to-cloud connectivity products to Electronica

The IoT connectivity specialist highlights its Digi ConnectCore 91/93 system-on-module and Digi XBee 3 Global LTE Cat 4 smart modem.

ConnectCore 91/93
The Digi ConnectCore 91/93 system-on-module (pictured above) is based in the NXP i.MX 91/93 processor. This includes an Arm Ethos U65 micro neural processing unit (NPU).

Measuring 40mm x 45mm, it provides a pre-certified wireless system with a suite of connectivity and processing features. For example, dual-band 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4 are supported. The aim, says the company, is to help reduce both development time and compliance risks.

The SOM, with Yocto Linux support, is aimed at edge computing applications requiring reliability and long lifecycles.

XBee 3

“This pin-compatible and software-compatible family offers a range of cellular capabilities, bringing flexibility to customers’ connected products.”

Features of the modem include support for Bluetooth Low Energy for beaconing (connecting to the Bluetooth sensors and local configuration using the Digi XBee Mobile app). MQTT (MQ Telemetry Transport) messaging protocol support for Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS cloud services is also present. And it is FCC certified and end-device certified with “major carriers”.

There is also 2G and 3G fallback and GNSS, for accurate location services. And Integrated MicroPython programmability enables custom scripting directly on the modem.

Finally, note it includes a SIM, ready to activate and begin using.

Edge-to-cloud connectivity
Both products work with Digi Connect Cloud Services, based on the company’s Digi Remote Manager, a system to securely deploy and manage remote assets. Its features include automating mass firmware and software updates, for scaling deployments and staying in compliance .
