AMD is to lay off 1000 people representing 4% of its 26,000 worldwide employees as it focusses on its biggest market – AI ICs.
AMD’s Q3 saw revenue up 18% y-o-y at $6.8 billion and profit up 158% y-o-y at $771 million. Q3 R&D expenses were up 9% and total cost of sales was up 11%.

Datacentre sales are expected to clock a 100% rise this year and this is where AMD is investing most heavily. Its latest accelerator chip – MI325X – is due to begin volume production in the current quarter.
AMD is Nvidia’s closest rival in the GPU market where it has 12% market share after Nvidia’s 88%, according to John Peddie Research
