Home-test kit to determine coronavirus immunity

Amazon will be delivering millions of finger-prick coronavirus testing kits to people if they are found to be accurate in tests being done this week.

The kits will go first to NHS other critical workers and will then be made available to the general public.

The kits will determine whether or not a person is immune. If they are, then they can go back to work so facilitating a phased route out of the lockdown.

The government is anticipating peak infections in three weeks time.

The test detects antibodies to the virus in the blood. The antibodies are made by the body to fight a virus. If you have them in your blood it shows you’ve had the virus and are immune.

“Once the bulk of the tests arrive they will be distributed into the community, where there will be a mechanism to order a test via Amazon,” says Professor Sharon Peacock from the National Infection Service, “in the near future people will be able to order a test that they can test themselves or go to Boots, or somewhere similar to have their finger prick test done.”
