Infineon has got EC approval for European Chips Act funding for its Dresden fsb.
The award still needs sign-off from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK).
EC awards European Chips Act money for Infineon’s Dresden fabThe fab is already receiving support under the EC’s IPCEI ME/CT (“Important Project of Common European Interest on Microelectronics and Communication Technologies”) innovation program.
Total government funding for the €5 billion expansion of the Dresden site is around €1 billion.
Construction began in March 2023. The Fab opening is planned for 2026.
“We are increasing semiconductor capacity in Europe and thus helping secure stable supply chains in automotive, security and industrial fields,” says Infineon CEO Jochen Hanebeck.
