Intel is in the process of buying Moovit for $1 billion, reports Reuters
Moovit is a free Israeli mobile app which tells you the available public transport options for any particular route.
The app’s creators have raised $133 million from investors including Sequoia, BMW iVentures and Intel.
Moovit uses crowdsourced information as well as official timetables to deliver route information.
Moovit was the official mobility app for the 2016 Olympic Games, UEFA Euro 2016, and the 2018 Asian Games.
It has provided data to Microsoft’s Azure Maps And last year announced, with MS and Tom Tom, a multi-mode trip planner, combining driving, parking and taking public transit.
It has also worked with Waze.
Moovit can provide bespoke transport information for particular situations such as an emergency mobilisation service for transit agencies and enterprises during the current pandemic which organised vehicle fleets into an on-demand service to get essential employees to work.
Presumably Intel wants Moovit to complement its ADAS operation Mobileye.
